Athirampuzha - a Grama Panchayath and an ancient town
located 10 kms from Kottayam, 3 kms from Ettumanoor and M.C Road (Main
Central Road) S.H.1 of Kerala. Athirampuzha has a very colorful and rich
history and known as Port Town till mid of 1900s.
Water and road transport facilities in the early years made
Athirampuzha a well famous marketplace. It is one of the main market and trade
center in Central Kerala to connect the East to Western regions through
channels and rivers.The development of wide roads and bridges to the western
parts of kottayam and Alappuzha were reduced the importance of trade through
the backwater routes.

The history of Athirampuzha is described in number of
ancient books and historical travelogues.One of them is the historic eight-year
journey started from Athirampuzha boat jetty(Chantha kulam) in 1778 by
Kariattil Ouseph (Joseph) Malpan and Paremmakkal Thoma Kathanar to Rome to
represent the problems of Kerala Syrian Catholics, and recorded in his famous
travelogue known as "Varthamana Pusthakam".
Employees and Students of Mahatma Gandhi University, doctors, teachers and all types of staff and students from various Educational and Medical institutions in and around this location reside here. This location became a fast developing residential area in Kottayam dist. and attracts lot of peoples and families as safe place to live.

St.Mary's Church Athirampuzha and St.Sebastian's Feast
The Athirampuzha Pally Known as Valiya Pally is the main
attraction in this region. The Church is blessed dedicated to Our Lady, the
Blessed Mary on August 15th 835 AD.The famous St.Sebastian's Feast celebrated
here the Month of January19th to February1st every year. The main procession on
24th and 25th of January is a unique and attracts many of devotees around the
world.The Statue of St.Seabstian, roopakkoodu, beautiful Alter, the big mono
block stone cross, three big bells hanging at a height of 85ft.is the main
attractions of the church.
